If I had a store I would sell this. It's not like beef jerky - it's tender and delicious. It's not over salted -- it's different. The texture is different. Dry but not tough. DELICIOUS.
Pemmican, dried Buffalo, the whole thing. Perfectly fatty and salty and smokey together. I bought this for canoe trips this summer but it’s not going to last until then, it’s too good and I’m eating it all now.
At home, we recently learned with Mitosh that pemmican is a survival food — the kind of thing you’d pack for a long expedition into the wild. But in our house, it’s taken on a whole new role. I have a picky eater at home...who does not enjoy walking :).
One of its request has become strawberry maple pemmican. Not after hiking, not after playing — but as a treat during movie night. It’s a little funny and honestly amazing to see a six-year-old turn away from candy and popcorn and proudly ask for pemmican instead.
It just proves: survival food can be comfort food too — especially when it’s packed with flavor and a little maple sweetness.
